Lucia Cuba is a Peruvian designer, textile artist, and scholar. Her fashion practices approach wearable forms as performative and political devices at the intersection of social justice, design, and art. Cuba has developed projects related to health, activism, children’s rights, and the study of non-Western and alternative fashion systems, including BASELAT, a database that broadens fashion and textiles studies in Latin America; Exercises on Health, a platform that explores connections between fashion, health, and wellbeing; and Articulo 6, a project that addresses the Peruvian case of forced sterilizations and its relationship to the eugenics movement. Her works have been exhibited locally and internationally at the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum, the New York Museum of Arts and Design, and the Museo Amparo, among many other international venues. She received the Han Nefkens Award in Fashion (2014), a United States Artists Fellowship in Design (2019), and the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center Residency Fellowship (2022). Cuba holds an MFA in Fashion Design and Society from The New School University and a BSc in Social Psychology from Cayetano Heredia University in Peru.
She currently works as an Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and Social Justice and Donna Karan, Co-Director of the MFA Fashion Design and Society at Parsons, The New School.
